HeLa cells transfected to express green flourescent protein and GPI anchor fusion protein
HeLa cells were transfected to express a fl uorescent membrane protein. Fluorescence intensity varied from strong (yellow circled cell) to faint (red circled cell), corresponding to varying degrees of protein expression. Force measurements performed with functionalized AFM probes showed a strong correlation between binding force and fl uorescence intensity, with bright cells yielding many binding events (yellow curves) and dimmer cells yielding very few (red curves).
