OmpF Porin CM in Liquid

70nm scan of the periplasmic surface topography of OmpF porin from E. coli in buffer solution. Rectangular unit cells (a=135Å, b=82Å) each consisting of two porin trimers, are clearly resolved. Each trimer consists of a central "Y-shaped" mass (light blue) surrounded by three circular holes (green). A lateral resolution of 8Å was determined, and reproducible vertical height fluctuations were found to be below 1Å. Image courtesy of A. Engel, Universität Basel.
