Bacterial surface coat from Deinococcus radiodurans (HPI layer) collected in air using TappingMode. Note the point defects present in the naturally occurring hexagonal lattice. Also seen are the six radial spokes that interconnect the central cores. Each core additionally exhibits a central depression. 220nm scan size.
